Bilaspur

(The Town With Under Water Rains)

The mini town Bilaspur is situated  on the bank of ‘Gobind Sagar Lake’ at an altitude of 673 mts. the sea level. The town has a chequered history. The fury of river Sutlej has been tamed by an engineering feat and a new township has sprung up just above the sunket temples, which occasionally raise their tops to remind man of their underwater existence. The hill on which the modern township has established itself has all the all its modernity. Boats can be seen ferrying visitors and locals across to tiny hamlets and terraced fields. Bilaspur is one of the hottest places among other places in Himachal Pradesh. Evenings, however, become soothingly pleasant on account of the lake’s proximity. While on the way to Bilaspur from Kinnaur via Swarghat ruins of Malwan Fort atop a distant hill catch one’s eye. On the other corner in the district is the Slapper Hydel Project where waters of Sutlej and Beas meet to mark the dividing line between Mandi and Bilaspur.
